Ray West is an acclaimed, self-taught fine art pastel and pastel pencil artist based in Colchester, Essex. After spending a successful career working in the investment industry, he fully reignited his passion for drawing and painting. Over a relatively short timeframe, he has developed a distinctive hyperrealism style characterized by meticulous precision, depth, and striking attention to detail. His preferred mediums include soft pastels and pastel pencils from quality brands like Faber-Castell, Derwent, and Stabilo, which he layers skillfully onto surfaces like Clairefontaine Pastelmat board.

His artistic portfolio spans a diverse range of subjects, though he has gained significant recognition for his dynamic motoring themes, observational studies of light and shadow, and evocative reflections.
