Neil's Craft

Neil Wood is a highly respected contemporary sculptor and fine artist known for his distinctive Modernist approach to exploring the human condition. Born in 1963, he has decades of experience in the field, not only creating his own work but also lecturing and teaching fine art and sculpture at various institutions across the UK

Wood's sculptures often utilize the human figure, rendered in a semi-abstract way, as a vehicle to experiment with materials and visual language. He works with various mediums, including bronze, steel, and stainless steel, often emphasizing the making process itself, including lost wax bronze casting. His work aims to express complex ideas about human experience, relationships, and the world we inhabit.

His extensive career includes both gallery artworks, which allow for a more direct and unconstrained creative output, and large-scale public and corporate commissions. Notable public works include "Mercury" for Goodyear UK Ltd (1998), "Heritage" commemorating the Mining Industry for Cannock Council (2004), and numerous sculptures for businesses and community projects. Wood's work has been exhibited widely in solo and group shows across the UK.
